David Knopp
David Knopp / Director of Africa, The Wood Foundation

David Knopp is overall responsible for management and execution of the Africa portfolio of the Wood Foundation, a Scottish-based organization practicing venture philanthropy. This includes a series of firm level investments, smallholder privatizations, greenfield developments, and joint ventures in the agriculture sector. Mr. Knopp serves as Chair and/or Director on multiple boards supporting smallholder agriculture, including a vanilla company in Uganda, various smallholder service companies in Tanzania and Rwanda, and 6 tea factory companies operating in Rwanda.

Previously Mr. Knopp worked with Deloitte Emerging Markets in Washington, D.C. as well as the Finance, Banking, and Enterprise Group of Development Alternatives (DAI). He has served as Chief of Party of a USAID-funded program focusing on value-chain development in the horticulture sector, as well as advisor to the Kenyan Government in setting the policy agenda for the micro- and small enterprise sector. David holds a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and an M.A. specializing in International Trade & Investment from American University. David resides in Nairobi, Kenya with his wife and two daughters, where he has been based for the past 22 years.
