Duncan is an Engineer by qualification with a BSc in Agricultural Engineering and an MSc in Building Services Engineering.
He started his career designing dairy milking machines for the UK’s National Dairying Institute, then studied for his MSc before moving into the construction industry for the next 15 years which took him to work in South East Asia as well as the UK where he was Managing Director of an engineering consultancy firm.
An opportunity in 2002 to run the factories at Sotik Tea in Kenya allowed him to join the tea industry where he has worked for over 20 years. Latterly Managing Director of Tatepa Ltd in Tanzania, he then joined The Wood Foundation Africa in Kigali. In his tea career while Duncan has been involved in all aspects of the businesses, it is fair to say that his main interests have been, and continue to be, in the aspects of tea which are most concerned with smallholder farmers and engineering.
