Michael Orangi is the Country Director, Kenya|Tanzania of the Rainforest Alliance. He provides strategic and technical leadership and manages the strategic planning and implementation of all activities in Kenya and Tanzania. While overseeing the effective and impactful implementation of Rainforest Alliance projects and programs in Kenya and Tanzania, He is a result-driven professional with a progressive career, holding a Master of Science degree in Soil Science, a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and an International Diploma in Project Management (Professional Level). Currently undertaking his PhD studies in Integrated Soil Fertility Management aimed at applied sustainability research and agricultural technologies focusing on alleviating poverty and food insecurity in relation to water stress management and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation. He has over 18 years of relevant experience having worked in different organisations and sectors mainly in tea and coffee agriculture and manufacturing industries. He has served in different capacities as a Business Development Advisor for Fairtrade Africa, a Trainer in Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture Standards, Integrated Pest/Crop Management and Financial Literacy for the Rainforest Alliance Inc.; a Consultant Trainer in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation for Ethical Tea Partnership; a Field Manager for the Wood Foundation Africa in Rwanda; Agricultural Extension Officer for Sasini Coffee and Tea; and as a Field Services Coordinator for the Kenya Tea Development Agency Limited.
