Dr Moses M.
Thiga is a visionary leader in digital
transformation, artificial intelligence, and e-learning within higher
education. As the current Director of ICT at Egerton University, he leads
strategic initiatives to modernise institutional infrastructure, enhance
cybersecurity, and align digital systems with academic and administrative
priorities. His work has significantly improved digital service delivery and
positioned the university as a forward-thinking institution in the region.
A passionate
advocate for the ethical and inclusive use of artificial intelligence, Dr Thiga
is also the Founder and Executive Director of the Savannah Digital Research
Institute (SDRI), a pan-African think tank focused on developing affordable and
context-aware AI solutions. His research and innovation efforts have led to the
creation of impactful technologies such as Mama’s Hub, a digitized maternal
health platform built on Google’s Open Health Stack, and AI-powered systems for
blood pressure monitoring, clinical trials, and ethical decision-making in
healthcare.
He holds a
PhD in Information Systems and teaches at the European Business Institute,
where he delivers courses in AI, deep learning, and data science. As an
educator, he has participated in the development of curricula for M.Sc.
Artificial Intelligence, M.Sc. Data Science, and B.Sc. Data Science and
Analytics, and has supervised many postgraduate students in pioneering research
fields.
Dr. Thiga
is a prolific author and editor, with notable publications including From
Promise to Progress: Making AI Work for Africa (2025), A Roadmap for the
Establishment and Accreditation of ODEL Centers (2024), and Essential
Guidelines for Writing Scientifically and Ethically Sound Research Proposals
(2024). His work has earned him multiple grants from Google, IBM, AI4D, and the
National Research Fund, among others, over the years.
Beyond
academia, Dr Thiga serves on the national task force for cybersecurity and AI
regulation and sits on the boards of Data Science Africa and Anza Village. His
contributions continue to shape the future of digital education, AI innovation,
and research excellence across Africa.
